Film to Digital File

Hi.
Just picked up an Olympus XA. I want to go from film to a digital file. Don't really want to set up a dark room. How can I get from an exposed roll of film to my computer. Thanks.

  hey ned,
once I get my prints I scan the photos I think I want for digital files or to upload to here.
film scanners are better if operated properly, and you didn't say if you wanted to make poster size prints or send them with emails..

I would like to avoid making prints all together. Any way of going from the negative to digital?

Ok, here's a good way when you're on a budget. I haven't used it personally but I've used something that's very similar and it does a pretty good job. If for some reason you wanted to make a larger print I would first scan and make a decent size print, like 4x6 or 5x7 print test print, take the negatives and the test print when you want to have the larger print made so they know what color to match it too if it's something different than normal. Anyway, the scanner is actually a flatbed scanner. I know the people who have more money to burn and professionals will throw a fit but they can...yeah :) Anyway, Canon CanoScan8400F Flatbed Scanner.

Around $130

It can also do medium format if you need to for some reason.

If you're using negatives, you can batch scan 12 at a time.

You could save money by just asking for processing and an index print, then you could scan when you get back home.

Make sure you read up on this and know about dpi and such if you want to print from these scans. It's kind of a deep hole to step into all at once if you don't know about it already.

Hope this helps!
