Photography Question

Pete H

A Good Quote

Below is a segment from one of (Dan Heller's) books and also on his webpage.
I've seen many questions on this board regarding "how do I get started in the photo business?"

Here is a link to his site, well worth an afternoon of reading for anyone starting out in the business of photography. Click on "tutorials" on the top of his web page.

"Q)How many photographers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A)Fifty. One to do it, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that."

"I don't want to sell myself short. I realize that I've got some really strong images, but I believe my success in photography is a result of good business sense, not necessarily talent. (See Photography Business Topics.) My Je ne sais quoi is not in my art, but my business. I know that I can apply good business thinking to just about anything; it just so happens that I apply it to photography. (I had once been in the computer software business.) I know I'm different from other photographers in this area, and I am sadly more successful than truly talented photographers whose works sit in basements, closets or dorm rooms. Does my advanced business sense justify my artistic success in photography, despite my moderate talent and above average technical skills?"

  This is so true!

Do you really think those celebrity chefs on TV are better cooks than that guy or gal in that restaurant down the street working for a living?
It's all about learning marketing strategies and selling yourself.

I can add to Dan Heller's statement in saying that "Opertunities don't arise...they are acquired".

Pete, that is a great quote and so true. Bob that is also a good quote but I'm warning you to be careful because I tried to market myself and sell me and the cops almost busted me in a sting operation...thank God I'm also a fast runner.
