Photography Question

XD card error

My Fuji XD card went down whilst I was on holiday in the States, and now only says Card Error in my camera, and no pictures will recognise in any other card reader. There were some pictures of my holiday that I would very much like to get back, the card was full.

Is there any way that anyone knows?

Did you open the card slot or take out the card before the error occurred? I've noticed that sometimes messes it up, but I don't think I ever completely lost the pictures doing that. Just a little annoyance. After formatting the card, the problem went away. I would call Fuji as they might be able to help.

Thanks for your reply. I took the card out to put it into a card reader in a photographic store and the problem came in there. It never read in the reader, and now won't in my camera.

The card reader wasn't faulty because it read my other 3 cards and as far as I know the card wasn't taken out whilst accessing because it never would access.

They tried image recovery software in the store but it wouldn't recognise a drive with the card in the reader. A puzzler!

Hmmmm. Yeah, calling Fuji would be the best answer, and they'll probably tell you you have to format your card. :(
Sorry.

I once took out my xd card to put in the computer (as opposed to the usual way of using the USB cord) and it made all the pictures double and the camera acted kind of funny. I didn't loose the pictures, though, and after formatting the problem stopped.

I guess that's just one area Fuji needs to improve in - fix their cards or cameras or whatever causes the problem.

There are many pieces of software available to recover files in this sad situation; Start with File Scavenger which can be downloaded from http://www.quetek.com free. I would suggest that, since your card reader doesn't recognise the card, you should leave it in the camera and plug the camera into your computer via USB so that it is seen as a disk drive, then point File Scavenger at it and get your files back!
Then format your card (you may never have another problem with it) and buy another card (because you might have another problem after all!).
Good luck.
