Photography Question

set-up for on-location pet photography

I am a pet photographer who does on-location pet photography with my Nikon D70 and on-camera flash. I'm chairing a pet expo for my local humane society in September and they want to do digital pet photography as simply as possible. If I wasn't chairing it I'd do the photos with my camera but I'll be too busy that day. They have their own equipment (printer, camera - point and shoot, etc.) but I'm not a studio photographer and can't recommend how to set up for them. It will be inside an old Ice Arena and I don't believe the lighting will be that great. I do have three strobe lights (that I haven't got around to trying) including softbox, umbrellas etc. But these are not professionals and I won't be available to help. Any suggestions on how they could easily set up a photo (and background suggestions)? lots of different dogs with different hair colors! They just want to try to make some extra cash for the Humane Society but we're having a hard time finding a another pet photographer in town who will donate their time (or part of their time). Thanks Cathy

Where are you? If near me, I could check my schedule and donate time and talent... Otherwise, I don't think there's much you can do for them. One idea that you could tell them is to get an old couch and area rug and have the dogs all over them. If the light will be low, suggest they get some of those halogen lights like you work on cars with (the kind that clamp to the hood) and light with those, as they are 5 bucks each at most chain stores. Another idea - suggest they change their shoot date to a day when you can be there for them? I just reread the post, are they shooting the dogs they're trying to have adopted, or doing a fundraiser by shooting other peoples pets??
