Photography Question

Debby A. Tabb

CAN ANYONE HELP WITH INSIGHT TO THE CANON 1N

A FRIEND OF MINE INHARITED THIS 300MM LENS AND ONE 1n AND ONE 1n RS, FROM A MAN WHO SHOT NASCAR PROFESSIONALLY.
SHE WOULD LIKE ME TO PUT THEM ON EBAY FOR HER, I DID LIST THE LENS FOR HER, BUT THE PRICE FOR THE 1NS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE.
CALUMET SAYS THEY STILL SELL THEM FOR $1,300.00 AND ON EBAY THEY RANGE BETWEEN 200.00 AND 799.00 THIS MORNING.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT A FAIR LISTING PRICE IS?

THANK YOU

You're looking for values in order to set reserve prices? KEF lists 1n RS bodies for between $450 and $665. The range for 1n (with battery pack) is $300-$645. Drop me (jcclose@yahoo.com) and I'll e-mail you the instruction manual (in .pdf form) for each, which might improve their sales appeal.

The RS is specially designed for the fastest frame rate available in an SLR (up to 10 fps). It can shoot that fast because it has a fixed pellicle mirror that does flip up out of the way. Because the mirror is in the light path to the film, it costs about 2/3 stop of light (35% to the viewfinder, 65% to the film plane), but the meter is already calibrated to compensate. Extra care must be taken to keep this exotic/delicate mirror clean. Canon recommends "Use a blower brush to lightly blow off any dust from the pellicle mirror. If the mirror is really dirty, consult your nearest Canon Service Center."
