Hi Rob, I'm not sure what type of camera you have. But do you still have the manual? This will tell you step by step how to do it. Or if you don't have that anymore, if you go to the menu screen and search the contents, you may just come across it. The menu will walk you through it, for it only takes a few seconds. It's very easy to do. I normally format the card the very first time you use the memory card.
Formatting a card basically lets you know that it is going to work right with your camera. If you use the memory card without formatting it, it will usually work. Most cameras, that I know, will automatically put all the necessary info (so to speak) on the card for you, regardless of whether you've formatted it or not.
But I've heard formatting can also fix minor problems (i.e. error messages, etc). Hope that helps!!

Thanks for the reply. I am purchasing a Fuji S9000 with a Lexar CF 2GB 80x card. So, I should Formatt this card a.s.a.p. when I put it in the Camera, correct? Easy to do, Right? Ok, I'll do just follow the instructions! I hate reading Instruction manuals, nessasary but boring!

Haha, no prob. I would recommend to format the card when you do put it in the camera. You only need to do it once when you first use it. It's not usually complicated. I hate manuals too, half the time they seem foreign. But just go to that certain page and I'm sure it will be short and sweet. If you have any problems, let us know! =)

I've read in several places that it's best to format your mem card each time you start a shoot, because when you just delete photos off the card, it leaves little bits and pieces of the files on there. If you format at the start of each new shoot, you have a clean slate, and after all, it takes what, maybe 3 seconds to do?
