Dodge/burn paintshop pro 8
Hello all! I know of these tools in this program, but I can't figure out what is the best situation to use them and what kind of effect they create. Looking for advice, thanks in advance! Mary Anne

Hi mary anne, The dodge and burn tools are really handy for tone errors in an image, generally due to slight incorrect exposure problems. Dodge will lighten a specific area, and burn will darken an area. The easiest way to remember of course is that burning something makes it go black/dark.. ie burn tool darkens :) As I learnt the other week, these tools are really only good for smallish isolated parts of an image, otherwise it can become blotchy and uneven. So, you dont really want to use dodge/burn on a sky for instance. If you have a small object or something in an image that needs lightening/darkening, these tools are handy. Btw, to make things easier, you can lassoo the object carefully, and use the dodge/burn tool inside and it will not effect outside the boundary of the lasoo, if that makes sense. Hope this helps :)

Mary Anne, One more thing.. I use photoshop not paint shop, but ive just discovered if you go into the help index of photoshop and type in dodge, it comes up with a picture and example of the dodge/burn tools in action... I'd say paintshop would have this also, and may pay for you to take a look, you might get a better idea of what you can do with it!! :P
