Photography Question

Tami Rook

looking for help

Sipho, I would like to say thank you, you have always taken the time to say ya or na to my photo’s
I joined this forum with great excitement, Here were people with more knowledge then myself, I could grow as a photographer and learn along the way….. I do not seem to get much feed back, is it that my photography is not that good or????? Should I just give it up???? Are they that bad?????
(you know if you can’t say anything nice do not say anything) lol
if this is not the right forum, can somebody point me to another one? One that might give some guidance to a new comer.

Don't leave! I can't imagine why you're not getting critique if you're asking for it. Honestly, if (and when) I see a photo that nothing is technically wrong with, but there is no wow factor, I say nothing. I'm not saying this applies to you, it's just how I am. Also, the only time that I offer unsolicited critique is when I see a shot that (I think) could be out of this world if one or two things were improved upon.
We all get discouraged (I can remember one time that I was "leaving this idiot site, screw 'em all, they can go to hell") but hang in there, hang in HERE. Keep asking for critique. Keep looking at others' photos and learning.

Sipho as I said you have been great, you always give a helping hand or opinion which I do (really do) appreciate. You Rock dude lol
I do not offer much comments on others because I feel I am learning and do not or have not earned the right to put my 3 cents in yet (watch out when I do :) )
I belong to a truck forum (we race, and I have not put those photos up so as not to offend people diesel smoke) haha I am a tree hugger that finds racing big truck great, go figure I can find the beauty in most things. Back to my point, we are like a family it is great questions generate input no matter how small or stupid it seams. I have to ask questions 2 or 3 times before I can get people to add any information. Is this a closed group of people?? Are new comers not accepted?? life is short, and I have never been one to force myself into any group... what is the deal here

We were all newcomers!!!! A lot of people, including me, will NOT answer a question that has obviously been asked a million times, and could have been found in the archives... the person was just too lazy to search...not saying (again) that this is the case with you, just telling you. So maybe if you did, indeed, ask a question that the forum has seen a billion times, it wouldn't have gotten answered. I haven't found this to be a closed group, but I'm me, and I just insert myself wherever I want to be, damn the consequences. I'm assertive, you might say. LOL. You should post your truck photos. Now quit crying and go shoot!!LOLOL

You are funny guy, I do dive into the archives to find answers prior to asking, perhaps some of my questions are beyond answering in any one way. I don’t know about my racing photo’s lol when I say smoke I am talking about black coal coming out of the pipes and falling to the ground…… quite offensive to a lot of people. OK OK no more whining, I would love to be out shooting now however I am a college instructor and class is in, and when I take a day off ½ my class takes the day off funny how that works…….. no shooting this am.

Tami, a lot of questions may not get answered when they are first asked and then get shoved to the second page, or beyond, where most of us don't always lurk.

Another problem is that some of the people on here are just plain rude, obstinate, inconsiderate slobs (oh, well, enough about me). LOL

Don't take this as an insult but most of your photos are nice snapshots but nothing spectacular (but, then, so are most of mine too). Your pictures at the wedding could have been improved with some fill flash. Believe it or not, flash is needed as much or more so in bright sun as it is in a dark area. It gets rid of the shadows.

A few of your shots at the zoo are pretty nice - especially the one of the wolves.

Great Outdoors could have been helped with the use of a polarizer. The sky is washed out and the foreground is too dark. Nice composition though.

Top of ? needs to be cropped to get rid of the pole, sign and the tops of the buildings. Otherwise, it is good. Good exposure to get the clouds and the darkness in the sky.

Flight - Enlarge it and frame it. Good detail in the bird and great look in the sky. I really was impressed with this one.

Sipho, you sure will insert yourself wherever you want to be with no regard to the consequences. You will even let a photo discussion degrade into a discussion about football! LOL (Tami, this is a joke. Sipho and I had some fun in a photo discussion on one of my pictures. Heck, he and I always have fun!)

Flight caught me, too!! I forgot to say that!! It's the best in your gallery. I would definitely hang this one, if I were you. As to your WOW question, it's probably in those photos you're NOT posting, the racing ones. Unless it T & A or ding-a-ling, it shouldn't offend anybody's delicate sensibilites on this site. And who gives a damn if it does? They can look at something else. Most of the time, you'll get the wow factor when you're shooting something you love, am I right, Brother Walker (...let the people say amen..)

Amen! I meant to add to my response that she should post some of her racing photos for the very same reason you mentioned. You put your heart into what you love so the results are better.
