Mind Sharing A Little Wisdom?

I would like if possible a few words of wisdom being that I am more of a novice I would like to know how my pictures look to the more advanced.

I scoped out your gallery. The portraits of your sister and friend are pretty good. I enjoy the spontanuity over posed portraits.
Your landscapes are nice, but try not keeping your horizon in the center. Follow the rule of thirds. If there is interest in the foreground, then put your horizon line one third down from the top. If the sky is more interesting, then put your horizon line two thirds down from the top.
Your other shots are too contrasty for the medium. Try to be more selective about your subjects so you are going outside the limitations of the equipment you use. Digital does not handle contrast too well. That is the extremes between bright sun and dark shadows. Like the babbling brook. See how 'washed out' the sunlit background is? Try to avoid such backgrounds if possible. Zoom in closer to crop out the offending background. Move closer, or lower your shooting angle to include less background and more foreground.
Above all else, keep shooting and keep learning. Otherwise, good job.
