Creating Slideshows

I am looking for a good program that is easy to use by amateurs to create DVD slideshows that do not require the viewer to own the program. I have tried purchasing a program already and created the slideshow with great ease, however, when I gave the slideshow to the person it was created for, they were not able to view on their computer system b/c they did not have the program it was created in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Danial, if you use a Macintosh, then the answer is quite simple -just use iPhoto to load the shots into iMovie, where you can set up all manners of transitions, timings, etc as well as add a voice over track, music, etc.

Then you import that movie into iDVD and it will re-render everything to a DVD format and burn the disc. That DVD will work on virtually any regular DVD player.

And if you have somewhere to post stuff on the net, you can always use the web gallery feature in Photoshop. It's not nearly as versatile as Pro Show Gold, but if you want to throw something together quick, it's great!

Danial, what is the program you used?
I see you have already received good suggestions on this thread. But from a computer program point of view, CD's and DVD's should be self-contained and should not need the program to play them.

For one thing, CD's and DVD's are created to be played on CD and DVD players.
But because the disc's are also to be played on the PC, a batch file (.bat file), an executable file (.exe) and/or even an HTML file should be included on the CD and DVD. If the CD and the DVD do not start by itself on the PC (normally they start on their own but on some computer they do not), then you will have to double click on one of those (.bat, .exe, or .html) files to play...
...it is very unusual (even for a freeware or a demo version) that the program does not facilitate a way to play the disc...

I have Proshow Gold by Photodex too, and LOVE it. Plays on a regular DVD player as long as it's not really old. (the old ones might not recognize the newer technology, i've come across this here & there)
