Photography Question

entered in final round and also in book endless j

I've seen posts here regarding scam and fraud of spending money on a book that wasn't received.

I received a letter asking for a signature to authenticate my photo and for it to be published. Also, to incluse $25 for an artist statement if I wish, and $70 for a book if I wished to purchase, now I am unsure as I have justfinished reading these blogs.
Where do I go from now?

Go anywhere except to your checkbook or credit card. Although these are not technically scams as the book is eventually shipped, they are schemes to get you to pay them to publish your photo. Your photo will appear in a book, in approximately thumbnail size, along with thousands of others. Some of the photos may be great while others will be poor. Save your money and upload your photos here for all to view, at no cost to you or us.

Okay, for the last time; repeat after me: if they make you pay to get your image, story, article, etc. published it is what is known as a Vanity Press. If they make you pay and they tell you that you are wonderful; the best thing that has come along; the best photographer on the planet; etc. it is a SCAM! Legitimate publishers – even tiny, itty bitty, no-account, print it from your ink jet printer publishers, either pay YOU or do not ask for any money! If you want to have your image printed for all the world to see, well…either do it yourself, find an online group such as Snap Fish or market your work to legitimate publishers. Finally, my suggestion is to take a good hard look at your own work; pick up a copy of any decent magazine; book; or other publication; look at the images and ask yourself: are my images of the same caliber. If they are, well, that’s terrific! If they are not well, you have some learning and work to do and that’s great also. If you can’t tell, ask someone you trust for their opinion. End of lecture. Get back out there and make some images!
