Photography Question

Rachel E. Slepekis

Any other forums where you can get critique?

I really love using the photo critique part of BetterPhoto. But I was wondering if there were any other sites that you like to use.
I am looking for preferably something that is free to join. But anything where you can get a good critique of your work would be great!
So your thoughts would be great! Thanks! : )

Rachel,
I was on http://www.webaperture.com/ before I came here. It's free and a smaller and very friendly site, has many good photographers who are willing to help. (when posting, be sure to ask for critique) Quite a few good photographers moved over here some of whom still post there, too.

A good friend of mine came over, has made friends here, and invited them to post over there, etc. etc..., so, I know several who are enjoying Betterphoto and WebAperture.

The critiques can be harsh, but honest, they are very good to learn from. Everyone is willing to help those of us that need it.

Thnanks for the heads up about critiques being "harsh". I'll make sure not to look at it the wrong way. Thank you all for your comments!

If the critiques are harsh, they're worthless.

Nothing worse than reading the platitudes onthese sites - Ooooh, you're pictures so nice! That really helps someone learn to improve.

Of course, there is a correct way to critique. People must be polite, constructive, offer ways the image might be improved, etc. Critiques simply be - It's horrible.

John, When I used the word "harsh" I meant that the critique may not by a compliment and I know that I have learned from them. They are not rude, just honest and sincere.

Thanks for the comments John. I guess I should have been more exact about what I was looking for.
I don't mind "real" critique, just I don't enjoy ones that are mean or give the impression I should just give up photog all together because I'm so "bad at it".

My opinion is that you learn more from the "truth". It can be very nice to be "softened" with "You pics are nice etc etc... however.... etc etc". Sometimes the truth hurts, but you learn more in the long run. Take it on the chin, nobody is intentionally trying to hurt your feelings.... it's not about you.... it's about the Photo. If one comment did say "You should give up..." then this is "harsh"... but it may make the photographer try even harder.

Thank you Roy for your comments. I guess I'll just have to work on having thicker skin. And learn from comments.
