Photography Question

What to Charge for Images for Publishing

I have been approached about some of my images being used in a daily calendar format as well as greeting cards. The person approaching me has a publisher and the deal is done on their end. I have no idea how to go about selling my images for such a product and getting royalties if the items should sell very well. Anyone have anyone suggestions for me? Thanks!

Greetings Grace. This subject has been addressed here, i.e., what to charge for commercial work, about a gazillion times. The best place to look for approximate rates based on a myriad of factors, is our web site for Advertising Photographers of America. Here's the link for the downloadable membership pricing survey done in 1999.

You'll of course, need to extrapolate fees from then to now by using a percentage increase formula and your own negotiating skills. But you'll find what your essentially looking for there. Also, and I think I've said this before here more than a few times, but for those who are listening, if you engage in this type of work, LEARN THE BUSINESS PRACTICES associated with it. That way, you won't be taken advantage of in these types of situations. Or at least, perhaps, not quite so badly.

Okie dokie? Take it light.
Mark

Thanks, Mark. Learning the business practices associate with it and not being taken advantage of are my goals! I'll check out the link. Thanks again, Shawn,Grace Photography
