What aperture were you using? The first looks like the focus was on the feeder, the second like the feeder which happened to catch the gold neck band in focus, the third I'm not sure of......

  Hello Irene.

Can you operate your camera by remote?
This can allow you to position your tripod-mounted camera a lot closer with a shorter, faster, sharper prime lens...(if you have one).
I think the other Bob C. nailed it.
Your DOF is too shallow at that shutter speed and with that lens.

A remote setup is great for this.
I've had success capturing tiny songbirds near feeders by adding natural perches just out of frame.
I set up the camera with a radio-controlled remote trigger a few feet away and pre-focus the lens on a particular spot on one of the perches. The range on this particular remote device is 300 feet so I can sit inside the house and watch the action from a nearby window.
The birds would freak a little when the camera fires the first couple of times...(my motor drive is kind of loud) but they get used to the noise and eventually ignore it completely.

Bob
