Photography Question

Paul D. Carter

how to shoot fireworks

I plan to shoot fireworks and I know the basic tips. My question, when
using Fuji Velvia 50 slide film
what aperture is best F5.6 or F8?
I plan to capture several bursts
and the fireworks are displayed within
the inside of a stadium, not far overhead like most displays and there are some ground lights such as security
lights near the display area proper.

I think that either F5.6 or F8 would
be okay, but since I have never used slide film for this I am not sure.

Are there any other special considerations to keep in mind when
using slide film for this?

Please advise.

Thanks.

Paul Carter

  I would suggest you try f/16. I think you will find that at f/8 and ISO50 the colors overexpose and wash out. At least try a few shots stopped down. That would help with the ground lights as well.
