when do we know about our photos in the contest how do we know and when do we find out about how we did in the contests on here. and dose only premiums get to be in it to

The winners are announced somewhere around the 21st of each month. The finalists are announced first then a couple of days later the winners are announced. Some people feel you have to buy something to win. Maybe take a course or something but this is not true. You do not have to buy anything to win. Not galleries, courses, workshops, or anything else.

No, the contest runs from the 1st of each month through the last day of each month. After the month has ended they begin the judging process but with so many entries it takes about 3 weeks for them to process them all. So, the winners for the month of June will not be announced until about July 21st give or take a few days.

You have an interesting gallery, Gary. It's hard to say for sure what will attract a judges attention. I'm more in to flowers and nature than people. I've seen people photos win that are similiar in subject matter to yours. With faces that have a lot of character in them I think a little tighter crop when shooting might be better, but I'm totally the wrong person to ask about that. The best advice I could give you is to study the winners to see what what kind of images might attract a judge's eye. Sorry I can't be of more help in that aspect. Good luck and happy shooting!

I'm still not clear about the timing; for example, the theme for July is Summer Fun which by now (1st July) has about 11 entries, including a declared finalist!! How come that on the first day of the contest a finalist has already been selected?

Hi MH... I posted a reply in another thread, but here ya go: The answer can be found by reading that photo's discussion---(I assume the one of the kid in the pool?) It was originally posted to BP back in July 2005, and became a July 2005 Finalist eventually. (The first 'congratulations on your Finalist' message posted to that photo is from Aug. 20, 2005.) So, it is in fact a prior Finalist, being resubmitted, not a photo already selected as Finalist for the July 2006 contest.
