Photography Question

Composition Course

I am interested in taking one of the composition courses being offered this session. I'm having a hard time trying to distinguish between the different offerings from Kerry Drager, Rob Sheppard and Jim Zuckerman. If anyone has insights or recommendations, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hi Trina: I took Kerry's class and it was one of the best investments I have made in my photography! He is a terrific teacher and extremely supportive. I was debating taking Rob Sheppard's class this time and still want to take Jim Zuckerman's class on wildlife photography. I would suspect that you'd be happy with any of these classes. Only you can answer the question of where you are in your learning curve and what you want to learn next.

Hi Trina,
Thanks for your interest in BetterPhoto's courses!

Good advice from Irene: All are excellent courses, if I say so myself! :-) And I, too, suspect that you would be happy with any of them.

Have fun deciding, Trina!

Thanks Irene and Kerry. Yes, Kerry, I have looked at the outlines and they seem to be very similar. Kerry, how would you describe your class vs. the other two I mentioned? Thanks for your time.

  Hi Trina,
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, there are definitely some similarities among the courses.

One thing about my course, Creative Light and Composition, is that it is evenly divided between composition/design and natural light.

Also, within the realm of composition/design, each course has some specific lessons that are different. For instance, I have a lesson devoted solely to the creative use of Depth of Field - a topic that you might find intriguing ... or not! :-)

Another thing that can help you decide: Check out each instructor's gallery, and see which instructor has the type of photos that more closely match those that you enjoy taking. Check the "About the Photography Instructor" section of the main course-description page, and you'll see a link to that particular instructor's Premium Gallery.

Hope this helps ... thanks again!
Kerry

  Hi Trina –

I second Kerry’s suggestions and add one of my own: You did not say where you are in the photography learning curve; however, in my own experience if you are near the start of your learning process, I would strongly recommend Kerry’s class since he starts with the basics and builds upon those to help you learn the more advanced things. I left that class with a strong foundation for future learning and feel that it helped prepare me for the work I am now doing. Anyway, that’s what has worked for me. Good luck with which ever class you take!

Thanks to both of you. I guess as far as the learning curve goes, I am in the frustrated stage. I feel I've gained a good bit of knowledge and when I shoot I often feel like I am doing the right thing, but my results aren't as great as I envisioned them to be when I take the shot. Kerry, do you think that your class will help me achieve a better translation from eye to photo? You certainly have been given rave reviews in the testimonials!! I appreciate both of you helping me.

  Hi Irene,
Thanks again!!

Hi Trina,
Yes, indeed, this course is geared toward taking you out of the snapshot stage and into the more creative realms of photography - so that your photos will better match your vision.

Hope this helps!

Hi Trina – I just took a look at your gallery – yeah, I know, a little late, but I did like what I saw. I think you may be about where I was when I took Kerry’s class. I’m signed up to take another class on nature and landscape and feel that this is where I belong at this time. Best of luck in your class and keep posting your images for general review. The folks here are really helpful and many are extremely knowledgeable.

Irene
