Photography Question

Marina K

How to keep a client????????

Hi everyone,

Quick question from a newbie here. Say for example you get a call or an email from a person who wants to know what your photography prices are for a particular type of event. You send them pricing info and you do not hear from them for a few days. Do you call them and ask them if they have any questions about your services or just sit and wait for them to call you? I guess I want to know how other photographers get "potential" customers interested and finally agreeing to buy their services?

The reason why I am asking is, on Wed. I got a call from a lady and she wanted to know my wedding package prices. So I got her contact info and emailed her a link to my site. It's now Friday, do I call her? Or just not do anything? I am afraid if I don't act on it, she might choose another photographer.........

Please help......

Marina

Don't take this the wrong way but your question is misleading. A client is someone who has signed a contract and paid a retainer fee. What you have is a lead.

Now, whether you call her back is up to you. I doubt very seriously whether the fact that you contact her will make any difference in whether you sign her or she signs with another photographer. If I shot every wedding for every pserson who contacted me through my website (where the prices are plainly posted) I would have to clone myself. (Now that's a scary thought! LOL) Many times when someone contacts you inquiring solely about prices, they are looking for the cheapest photographer they can find, not necessarily the best. (Like someone who is willing to shoot the wedding for free if they can just get the priviledge of doing so - at least it sometimes seems like that is what some people want.)

I suspect that if this lady really likes your work and your prices, she will contact you again. If she doesn't like your work, which may be great but not the style she is looking for, or the price is too high, you won't hear from her again. However, it won't hurt to make a follow-up call. Give it a shot and see. Good luck!

You should call her. The worst that can happen is that you'll find out that they've hired another photographer.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, sorry I meant a lead, not a client, I noticed my title when I hit the submit button.

I did call her and I am glad I did because she told me she was having problems with her computer and didn't have a chance to look at my website, and she did not call me to tell me she had a problem. I am glad I called her first......

I guess, I was right...a follow up call woudn't hurt. I just didn't know how soon is appropriate to call back, do I give them 2, 3 days before following up?

Thanks all!
