Top 10

When I go on the Betterphoto site and put my last name in the search section, I get my "Top 10 Photos." They are not the ten most recent. Nor are they my "prize winners." How are they selected? Is it completely random or what? Thanks much. Claudia Bodmer

Good heavens, mine are truly strange! If a real person's selecting these, they need help immediately.

Claudia, from what I can tell, it's the ones that have been commented on recently. I put in your last name, and found that the first pic was last commented on on the 15th of this month, the second one was about the 10th, the third was about the 30th of last month.

  Kay, yes, strange. I agree.

Brendan, there are intervening ones that have been commented on. Try putting your own last name in and see if you can discern a pattern from yours.

Brendan, what you write is logical, but isn't the case. Anyone who's commented on my #3, 4 and 5 needs a life.

Kay, that's funny that those are in there!

Well I just tried my name, and it didn't work. You must have to have a website or a premium gallery.

Well I'm stumped! Anyone else have any ideas?

No clue! When I put my last name in the search, it comes up with other peoples images (10 pages worth) and I'm nowhere in them. I do have a Premium Gallery.

It only works for women whose last name begins with "B".

Well that's why it didn't work for me! I'm neither of those!

When they first announced the new search feature recently, I tried my last name and got 4 hits---none of which are my images. However, each image has my name actually spelled out in the discussion thread text itself (like, someone saying "Chris Budny suggested this edit.") None of my own images show up.

I put in my last name and didn't get anything. I put in "shark" and got shark shots, but can find no pattern. The pictures don't need comments, they don't have to be in order of date posted or name, they don't even need the word "shark" in their title, description, or comment thread! I bet every time someone from betterphoto sees a picture, he attaches appropriate keywords to it. Maybe they are sorted in order from best to worst, but that might not even be it.

I wrote a note to Heather who wrote back promising an answer from Tori. When I get it I will share the secret. Meanwhile, I like Kay's theory best (women whose last name begin with B). Stay tuned. Claudia

I'll hazard a guess that when you search your own name on this site, that name must appear in text associated within a comment or Q&A response,...like what Chris B. just described.

Um, not necessarily, not unless you're using the Search on a Q&A page. Claudia's question is about the Search that appears, for instance, on the BP home page. The ones for "Beausoleil" follow no logic I can think of except they're connected to me.

Here's what I got to add to the mix...
I have a unique last name, and mine popped up with my 'top 10 photos' too. However, some have never been commented on, and they are not the most recent uploaded. I doubt they are the most viewed out of my gallery too. Hmmm...

When I put my last name in I get a Jim Zuckerman photo!

The words "Fortin de la Flores" are in the description, so that explains it.

I get Sarah Ball and Robyn Churchill, but no Robyn Ball - so does this mean I'm persona non grata??!! Marianne, you're lucky, I'd like a Marc Adamus or Endre Balogh gem to come up in my name :)
