Flash Meter

I am looking to purchase a flash meter but having problems deciding on which kind to purchase. Does anyone have an advice for me.

Someone mention a Sekonic L-358 but it only has ISO 100 and 200.

I would like to have one for inside and outside photography.

Help.

I'll second your post. I need one too but I can't spend a ton of $$ on it just. I'd be interested in finding out what others have to say. =)

I've got the L358 with and chipped it to trigger my strobes. it is awesome and I think someone gave you bad info on the ISO. Check out their website.

I bought a sekonic and used it once. Too much of a hassel. The light meter in your camera is good enough, you just have to learn were to point it.

Hi Brady, Light meter in the camera? I never hear of this. I have a D70s Nikon. I looked in the manual and can not find anything. Please direct me it the right direction.

Hi Oliva, Can you use the 358 outside or is it just for triggering strobes?

Thanks for your responses.
Missy

Missy are you shooting with studio strobes? if so I had a used minolta auto meter IV which you can probably get off ebay for almost nothing.

I've used it both inside and out. In fact at the car races I've seen several other pros using them outside as well. I just used it at a beach shoot a few days ago outside then witht he photo on the stairs of my GF.

Yes, I have Victor Smith lighting. That is wonderful. The minolta will auto pick up your flash from your camera?

Thanks so much for responding. I appreciate everyone's help.

The L358 w/remote chip was the first flash meter I've owned and didn't have a problem after reading the instruction manual a couple times. I also did research online, it is also pretty tough, I had mine on the leash it came with and had it get splashed with salt water, it cleaned up great and hasn't missed a beat. I have another meter as well and I check the accuracy every so often.

If you go to www.sekonic.com you'll find all the answers to your questions but I have my L358 in hand and just hit power ON then press ISO1 button while turning the dial. My ISO choices go from 3-8000 so you got incorrect info. I thought it was pretty easy to use just wasn't used to using it at first but it'll save you time post production for sure even if you shoot RAW.
