How to create a collage in Photoshop

I am pretty new to PS. I would really like to learn how to make collages. I just need to a couple simple steps to get me started. Anyone know a really good (free) tutorial. Or discussion about that on here? Thanks, Contessa

  Hi Contessa,

If you will do an internet search on "Photoshop collages" you will get a list of several online tutorials, and at least one book avaialble from Amazon on the subject.

It depends on exactly what you want to do, but I've found it best to layout the spread first, then crop and resize the pictures to fit. Then insert each picture onto its own layer. I will pick an ouput resolution for the work, such as 150 or 300 dpi, then crop each image to the desired size with the resolution set to the master dpi. This works well for when you want the pictures to fit together. you can also do overlays, and modify the transparency. The key is to put each element on its own layer, so it can be adjusted, moved, or deleted later without messing up the rest of the collage.

COntessa, I've emailed you - as I have a stack of 'recipes' I can share with you, but I don't have your email. I'm away for the next 10 days - pls email me, and I'll respond on my return.
