Photography Question

Natural Lighting?

I am self taught so far, I have been reading a lot and I'll take my first on-line class through BetterPhoto.com next month, so I'm sure a lot of my questions will be answered there. Anyway, I have noticed "Natural Light Photographers" is this meaning they use no flash at all, or an automatic flash -- I will have to take a class on "the use of flashes" becasue so far I have only used my built-in flash on my Nikon D70 and I'm not sure what type of flash to start with when I purchase one, any advise is greatly appreciated.

Natural Light Photographers means they use the light provided by nature, not artificial light. (Either that or they are taking pictures of Natural Light. j/k)

For your first flash, you might want to check out the SB-600. Although the SB-800 is more powerful and has additional features, I am sure the 600 will serve you just fine.

Looks like Canon will buy out Nikon soon so you might want to wait on your purchase. You know its not to late to make a trade in for canon equipment (if you're serious that is).

I suspect that Brady's comment about Canon buying Nikon is just another Canon fan touting his chosen product. Canon makes some very nice equipment but so does Nikon. Making a choice between those two is simply a personal preference, not a choice of a better camera over a lesser one. Both offer excellent glass, with Canon (by reputation) has an advantage on the long end and Nikon with the advantage on the short end. My suggestion is always to buy the camera that feels the best in your hands as the end product produced by either of these manufacturers comparable cameras is similar.
