Uploading Problems Again

Well guys, I emailed Heather and asked her why the images I load are blurry. She gave me a couple of good threads to read and advised to upload with tiff files, eight bit (which I've always done). Well, the photo I just uploaded (which looks stupendous on my laptop) is very, very soft, and looks as if I added 10 color burn layers to it!!!! I was so proud of this shot and wanted you all to see it, but then when I saw it on BP I immediately changed my mind then vomited. It lost a lot of light areas, definition, and clarity!! Is there something I can do besides load the eight bit tiff, make the "short side" 480 pixels, or whatever else was in those threads?? Also, and more importantly (and this is my ego talking) do the BetterPhoto judges take into account the problems that are obviously happening when uploading??? Cause I think this one is great, and may have been worthy of at least a finalist position if it had uploaded correctly. It's just frustrating when I spent about 6 hours editing in PS (I have a laptop and use the touch pad until I get my Wacom tablet) to have it upload blurry and dark..... Help!!!

The other thing I forgot to mention (or ask) is whether the same compression techniques are used for the premium and pro galleries as for the free/contest ones. I was going to purchase one in a few days, but if the same thing happens to my shots, I'm not.

NEVER MIND! I WENT BACK TO THE PHOTO AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND IT HAD LIGHTENED AND SHARPENED! IT'S STILL A LITTLE DARKER AND A BIT SOFTER THAN THE ORIGINAL, BUT IT'S AT LEAST NOT NAUSEATING FOR ME NOW!! IT'S LIKE BP HAD TO PROCESS IT FOR A REALLY LONG TIME AFTER IT WAS UPLOADED....WHO KNOWS? THANKS ANYWAY.

I don't know, Sipho - the image looks pretty darn good on my monitor - sharp and the light seems fine. All and all, a wonderful image.

I admit to being a little confused by these problems. I have not noted any problems when I have uploaded my images; however, since reading so many posts I have begun to wonder if my eyes are just not seeing the issue. I have noticed that sometimes when uploading it takes a bit for the image to fully appear as I saw it on my monitor prior to upload. I just figured this was "normal".

I have noticed myself if I make any adjustment in multiple editing software before taking it to ps, there are significant loss in brightness. But if see I still need the adj, after going to ps first, then take it to camera's software, they come out fine. Just try to using your editing software, if you use more than one, in multiple scenarios to accomplish the same results. Then upload all to see which is the best, because there will be a different, some more than others
