Photography Question

Ray W. Beaudry

Download RAW files

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT (350). The RAW files have an extension *.Cr2. When I upload to iPhoto and then try to edit in Photoshop Elements 3 for mac the import is nothing but gray or colored noise. Any suggestions. I am using a Mac Powerbook G4.

Thanks,

Ray

  try a program called bootcamp (for apple){it is a new beta I believe}

[red]http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2006/apr/05bootcamp.html[/red]

it will let you run windows programs w/your set up -may require duall boot operating systom....

windows dwn.ld . offers a free raw viewer for cannon / nikkon .......

[red]www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.phpx?na=22&p=3&SrcDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=&SrcFamilyId[/red]

or convert the photo to tiff. or jpg . before attempting to edit ......

hope this helps

D.J.

  OR!
you can paste the link (below) into your browser and downloads Canons RAW editing program for Mac. You can either edit first then convert, or convert your files first and then edit in your prefered program for jpg, tff, etc...

Have you been able to open your Rebel RAW files before? I suspect the issue is that you're using an earlier version of the software that doesn't support RAW files from your camera. The solution is easy. Go to www.adobe.com and download the latest version of Camera Raw (3.4) and follow their instructions for where to place it. It's important to remove the earlier version of CR or else your computer will continue to access that one. You may also need to update your version of iPhoto.

BTW, bootcamp is for the Intel based macs, not the earlier G4s I believe.

I had the exact same problem. You have to download the latest version of RAW converter from Adobe.com Look through the RAW converter section and find the version that has the 350D (xt) after that it will work fine. It's something like version 3.1 or close to that.

  Brady Boy,

Being new to this site, is that sarcasm or a slam?

I happen to believe that the camera and the compter are both LOBSTER quality.

For every one else, I successfully down loaded the Camera Raw 3.1 plug-in and it works great!

Thanks,

Ray
