LumiQUEST ProMax Softbox - Velcro?

Has anyone ever used this type of softbox? Or any on-camera flash softboxes?

As much as I hate to admit this, I can't figure out how this thing is supposed to work... it looks like maybe I'm supposed to Velcro it to my flash. Is it just me, or does that seem like something I don't want to do? Do I really want pieces of velcro on my SB 28?

Any input is appreciated!

I've never used a LumiQuest softbox but I have a Photoflex softbox for my on-camera flash. The Photoflex requires an adjustable bracket. LumiQuest must have a Web site or help line. Contact them and see if you were supposed to purchase some sort of mounting hardware.

As far as velcro goes, my flashes all have Velcro all over them to attach my LumiQuest bounce attachment to and to stick radio slaves to. Nothing makes you look more professional than equipment covered in velcro and tape (gaffers or duct). ;-)))

You need not call Lumiquest. As with the bouncer that Jeff uses, the softbox also requires Velcro. It doesn't hurt anything to put this on but if you don't like how it looks, you can check out Sto-fen diffusers. They make one that fits on your SB 28 without using tape or Velcro.

I have a LumiQuest Promax Softbox. Yes, it should have come with velcro. And, it's true, all "real" photographers have Velcro all over their equipment. I love this thing. I entered a pic of my daughter holding a tiny kitten in the contest. I was shooting really close to her face, with my SB28 on auto and this softbox made the lighting very nice and soft.

I've used the Lumiquest softbox and never like the results. The camera can't compensate for the light loss as it assumes the full flash is firing. I find that the best results come from natural lighting. You can by a diffuser to hang over the subject to block some sunlight. If the situation requires a flash, get a bracket that takes the flash as far away from the lense as possible and use a good softening filter.
