I'm using the free trial Corel PSP X. Hard to understand but I'm still learning...my problem is: how can you edit a gray photo if you want to put a single color?

Paul Tobeck 		  Your grayscale photo would still need to be in RGB mode for you to add color to it. If it's in greyscale mode, the software won't allow color to be added. Your mode choices should be somewhere in the dropdown menus at the top.
