Dilemma between Maxxum 5 and Rebel 2000

I'm a beginer of photographing, I widh to buy a SLR, I have narrowed down my choices, Maxxum 5 and Rebel 2000.
I have went to the store and both of them are so amazing for me, so I need some adviser from expert.
1) Which one is better?
2) Which one is faster?(I would like to take car racing pictures like Indy and Nascar)
3) I love to take portraits, what kind of filter is better?( I like the model's skin and face in my picture looks fair)

Thank you

P/S: This is really a great web-site!

I shoot a Maxxum 7, and love it. There are a lot of great features in this unit, so, I am a little partial towards the Maxxum 5. The AF on this camera is pretty nice, though a good telephoto lens, fast film and a tri/mono pod would help you out a lot. It is a great great body, though I found it to be a little small. I love my minolta! As far as a filter for portraits, you might want to add a warming filter 81a or 81b.
