D70 Auto-focusing problem

I'm having a problem with my D70 hoping that someone can give me some insight. The history though is that my D70 came undone from my camera strap and fell on a concrete floor. The internal flash will pop up now but it won't flash anymore. That is about the only thing externally that I can tell is wrong with it.

But to my question. I am having a lot of problems with the auto focusing when I'm using my strobes and sometimes when I'm not. The camera will not focus. I've tried to move the lens in and out, try to re-focus on something else and it can't focus. When I look at the display through the viewfinder it is showing the low light indicator, little flash thing. I've got my modeling lights on but the lighting isn't real bright. I don't know if this is the problem or if it's me or if it's possible I knocked something out of wack when I dropped it. I usually shoot as ISO 200.

The camera seems to do fine in daylight but if I have to use a flash at all or there is low light it doesn't seem to focus.

I would put it on manual which I have done before but I wear glasses and can't see worth a crap. When I did this once cause the camera wouldn't focus the pictures were a little tiny blurry that I couldn't enlarge them cause they would be out of focus.

I've got insurance on my photo equp. and am thinking about turning it as a claim, but I wasn't sure if this is just a user problem.

Since you have insurance and there is the issue of the flash being broken I'd turn in a claim. I've never had the kind of problems with mine you are describing. I've done shooting in a gym under candle light with no focusing issues.

Next time sew the strap so it can't come loose. Our 5700 bit the dust. The only thing that was hurt on it was the viewfinder glass was knocked out. It still functioned just fine after the fall. My daughter's D70 came loose from it's straps too a while back. Fortunately for her she was very quick and caught it before it hit the ground. All my cameras are sewn on the straps now.
