Shooting a Digital wedding under flourescent light Hello out there! I am shooting a wedding reception in 2 weeks. It will be in a gymn under flourescent lights. HELP! Any suggestions so my pictures are not orange? I am shooting w/ a Cannon Rebel XT. Thanks, Susan Robertson

Hi Susan, I'm no expert, I've only done one wedding!! But the ceremony was under flourescent lighting! At the time I was using the Rebel G 35mm, and didn't use special film or anything... I didn't have any orange pics. I did use a speedlight on a flash bracket though. (which also reduces shadows significantly) Do you have one? I have the Rebel XT now, and have the 420 EX, with a Stroboframe flip bracket. I love it.

Don't worry, your pictures won't be orange . . . they'll be green! Tungsten lighting (regular bulbs) causes orange tints, fluorescent lighting causes green tints. If you're not using a flash, you should set your White Balance to the Fluorescent setting or take a custom WB with the gym lighting before it starts. Gyms are usually not well lit, though, so you will probably need to use a flash. The built-in flash on your camera is marginally useful at short range only. You should consider getting an external flash.

Riiiiight, chris of course! (I was thinking, hmm, orange? but didn't stop to think about it) But yeah, like we said, the external flash eliminates all of the color issues :)

Thanks for the tips. I have the 420 EX. I don't know how to set my custom white balance so I will read up on that. Thanks, susan
