Pocket Wizard Questions

I have two Britek 500S studio strobes and want to purchase some wireless syncs to trigger the flashes. Are the pocket wizards (1 transmitter 2xreceivers) the best bet for my dollar? I will be using these indoors and out at car shows. I use Canon digital if that matters.

Hey Oliver: Pocket Wizards are great. Never failed me yet. Excellent reliability, good range, durability and compatibility. We use them with Bowens monolights, and Speedotron and Norman pack systems. You shouldn't have any difficulty with your Britek lights as long as they'll accept a sync cord or your Canon so long as you can use it with a PC cord. To save a few bucks, btw, rather than using a second receiver on your second light, try putting either a peanut slave or some other type of slave on it to work off your other Britek that's triggered with the receiver.

If it's possible, at least try the Canon out with the transmitter and a receiver before you buy and double check the connections on your Briteks. OR, for the best deal anyway on PWs (I think) call B&H http://www.bhphotovideo.com and ask them about compatibility or PW's website http://www.pocketwizard.com/

Take it light.
Mark

Found the transmitter and 1 receiver for $300 from a good company matching BH(closed for Passover). I'm gonna do some research on the peanut slave. Another receiver will cost $150-$175 so if there is something more affordable that's good quality I'll try it. Are peanut slaves triggered by light or radio? Shouldn't I go radio if I shoot outside?

  Oliver,
I use Lite Links from Calumet, I use them on : Photogenic light kits, Britek kits and Calumet Kits(made by Bowens) have used them with my Nikon D70 and Canon 20D and Fuji S2 with wonderful results.
The are Transcivers and come in two packs heres a link:
http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/CE1560.html?ac.cat.CatTree.detail=y&type=PRDINDEX

You get 2 for $299.00.
Yes the Peanut slave is Triggered by Light and though it can work outside, there will be times it is unreliable.
Radio Slaves seldom are.
Wishing you the best.

The ones I was talking about are triggered by a burst of 5500 deg. k. daylight (strobe) although some peanuts are radio freq.

We've used light-triggered Wein peanuts for years outdoors up to about 50 feet from the pack we were triggering and never had a problem, even in bright sunlight. Here's the bh link to Wein stuff.

Adios.
