Photography Question

Caleb L. Adams

Can I really change lenses w/ film in?

(I am a total rookie!)
Someone told me I could switch lenses while I have film in. is this true with all cameras, or is it just some?
Please tell me if this will work with mine.( I have a Minolta Maxxum50)

  Yes, Caleb. Cameras that have interchangeable lenses (like yours) also have a shutter that stays closed to block the light from reaching the film until you press the shutter release button.

You can change lenses while film is in the camera.

Hi Caleb;

Welcome to Betterphoto.

The answer to your question is very complicated, so I will try to answer it as simply as possible.
YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES.

Your Maxxum has what's called a focal plane shutter. That's a shutter that's directly in front of the film. from the front of the camera, you can not not see it unless you lift the mirror.

Being between the lens and film, there is no chance of exposing the film by removing the lens (I would have wasted lots of film otherwise).

So, go ahead and load your film, change your lens, have fun, and keep shooting,
Mark H.

  One more thing,there, Caleb. Please dont lift the mirror to look at the shutter. you don't want fingerprints on it.

Good timimg, Chris.

  Ain't it cool? Enjoy, Caleb. Now get a darkroom and watch your head really spin.
