Photography Question

Angela L. Tague

Not as sharp on BP

Hi Guys,
When I post my proofs for clients on BP, they don'tlook as sharp as the original files. I know they are lower res for the web, but they actually look a little soft, not just low res. Anyone else having this trouble?
Thanks! Angie

Hi Angela, before you upload the shots, you need to scale them yourself to 480 pixels on the short side, then sharpen them. I've had some luck with that method. I think the compression level this site uses must be pretty high, too, which softens the shots. The shot I put up today didn't fare the transfer too well, unfortunately, but others come out very sharp.

  I've noticed the same thing.
Some of my shots looked awesome after uploading to BP...while others looked a little soft.
Does that "480 on the short side side" thing really help?

OK,...Let's find out with a little test.
These two images are identical,...scanned with exactly the same settings.
The only difference being that one was sized to 480 (short side), the other was sized larger to fill the screen on my monitor.
