Photography Question

modifying a scanner

Hi there, I want to know if you can modify a scanner so that it will properly scan film that's larger than the 35mm strips it's "designed for".
Half of my work is on 6x6, 6x4.5 and 6x7 cm film. Almost all of my wedding photos are on 6x7 or 645.
I have a scanner that does a good job with 35mm and I don't believe there' s a good reason for it not having an adaptor with a bigger space than the 35mm film format. It's an Epson 2480 Photo scanner.
At first I was told that the scanner wasn't "big and powerful enough" to take images of this size, but it can handle 3 35mm photos no problem, and as far as I can see, the only limitation is that imposed by the guy who designed the plastic adaptor.
Seems silly to fork out another few hundred bucks for a "bigger" scanner when the problem likes with a couple square inches of plastic.
Anyone have any suggestions? I would appreciate it.

ps I already have two scanners, and one of them's about to become obsolete when I go from Windows ME on my desktop PC to XP. I'd rather not have three of the things.
Many thanks. - Michael

Cobbling together an adaper to hold your medium format film against the glass is easily done. The limitation of the machine's design is the only-big-enough-for-35mm reflector for transparencies in the lid. It is different and more involved than the simple white matte that's normally used for documents/prints. It is limited in size to keep cost of the unit competitive. Most users don't have slides/negatives larger than 35mm.

Maybe you can DIY a larger transparency reflector for the lid.
