Beginning Software

Can anyone suggesta user friendly software for beginners? I have taken photos for sometime but have recently (4 month ago) picked up a Canon Digital 20D. I am wanting to try some effects and filters. Any help would be much apreciated.

Well, I thikn Adobe Photoshop Elements might be a good thing to look at - it's about $100 (US) - more or less the same as other entry-level image editing software - and it is quite powerful yet pretty easy to use. Perhaps you can find one of the many "how to" or "for dummies" books for Elements that suits your taste as well.

  JJ & Bob,

Photoshop Elements ships in the 20D box - should already be there, though it may be a generation old - I got PSE 2 with my 20D last November -

Thanks for the responses. I'll have to look through the bundled software again. Your comments are appreciated.

I've suggested this on other posts and I think it is still the best deal going if you want to jump into digital image editing. Take a long hard look at Wacom Graphire 4x5 tablet, which sells for around $90. It's a pen that acts just like mouse, but is so much better for editing pictures. The bonus is that it comes with Photoshop Elements 3, which carries over a lot of the new features of Photoshop CS2, the handiest being the Spot Healing Brush. Elements 2 is good also, if you want to start with it to get your feet wet. But I have to tell you (and everybody else) the Graphire was the best $90 I ever spent.
