Photography Question

BetterPhoto.com protection of our photos on the w

Does BetterPhoto.com protect our photos from un authorized downloads? Should we additionally imbed a copyright notice? The reason for my question is some one was able to save onw of my photos as a screen saver just by right clicking and saving... I can't even do that and no the person in not a very computer literate person.

If you haven't already seen it, you might want to check out the following thread on photos being saved from BP:
http://www.betterphoto.com/forms/QnAdetail.php?threadID=23092

BP does support a photographers right to place a copyright on their photos...but if you read the other thread you will notice that copyrights and watermarks can be removed. Apparently, no photo placed on the internet is protected.

You really can't protect your photos from People. Regardless of the pop up that occurs, an educated computer user knows all you have to do to get around this is hit the print screen button and paste it into paint or any other editing program and crop the picture.

Hunter! shhhhhhhhhhh! Now an uneducated computer user who reads this thread will know how to do it. I don't want people like my husband's Aunt (someone who "knows" how to use photoshop, yeah right) to find this. When she complained to me about not being able to save my betterphoto images of my girls I said I'd email them to her. Hmmm, she never got the email?

Next time you respond to a thread like this you can mention how easy it is to copy pictures, but don't mention exactly how to do it. I know it isn't rocket science ... but like I said, I don't want people like my husband's aunt to see this.

But, Hunter is right about not being able to protect photos from others. Read the thread Sherry suggested if you haven't already. It'll give you some ideas of what you can do to help protect your images.

  Thanks Sherry, Hunter and Cherylann,
I have been reading many threads that say the same; at first when I decided on BP for postings they seem to have at least a rudimentary determent by disableing the right click save etc. option and reminding of copyright infringement. If BP would just keep this protection on all the time I'd be satisfied.

One thing to remember is that all images on BP are low-res. If someone steals an image there is a risk they will post it on another site and claim it is theirs .BUT they will not be able to get a high res copy, which they would need to profit by it.- Mike

It is on all the time. Some browsers can do that.

explorer you couldn't right click and save. But you could save if you went thru file, and saved it as one of the options you had. Either archive or complete page, one of those
But with firefox you can right click and save, even though the warning window does come up when you do it.
There's no prevention. Just making you image so someone dosen't want to download it. Watermark if you don't want somebody using your picture to make a screensaver. They can be removed, but the final image after all the cloning may not look good. And the person probably dosen't want to do all the cloning anyway.

I apologize, I did infact realize my own stupidity After posting exactly how to do it. BP really should have an option to modify an existing post, or delete them even.
