JPEGs

What is the best way to save your images for your website? Save as jpeg or save for web type jpeg?

Thanks.
Michele

The best way is the save for web option. I recently discovered this gold mine myself! Go to save for web, and click 2-up so you can see the difference. Now on the right side go to the right and click image size. set your short side for 480. click apply. now change youf quality so you get the image size you desire. anywhere from 80-100% is alright.

Im glad to hear that as that is the way I have been saving my images for my website. I find that "save for web"; the quality of my image is sooooo much better than just save as jpeg option.

Thanks!

Also I'm not sure if you know but someone on the site (i'm so sorry I forgot exactly who you are!) figured out that if you save to exactly 480 on the short side, you get optimum sharpness, as anything else seems to soften up! good luck.

Interesting.... I re-sized my images to 750 on the longest side and just let the shorter side do whatever it came out to be. I will have to experiment with the 480 with future images just to see. Thanks. :)

Interesting info...one dumb question, where do you find this "save for web" option? I just upload my photos directly from my files...no PS or anything like that.

PS I have seem many threads where Sharon D. has suggested the "480 on the short side"...so maybe that's who you mean.

Corrinne, are you saying you don't use PS or have PS? Save for web is in Photoshop, under the File menu. Ahhh yes it was Sharon! Thank you. Sorry Sharon!

Yes to both, no PS. I guess I can't do this then...but will keep in mind for when I do...thanks!

  Justin,
I don't use PhotoShop either, I use MS Digital Image Pro. Do you know what PS does differently in the "save for web" procedure compared to saving as a JPEG? I'm just wondering.

Chris

  Corrine,
Do you use any kind of editing program with your photos before posting them to your gallery? OR do you just upload from your camera/disk?

I have two programs, one is the Camedia software which came with my camera, and then I have Picasa which was a free download. I don't very often use either of them to do any editing. Neither gives me alot of freedom/creativity...I crop alot and sometimes use sharpen.
