gitzo tripod

I've got a Gitzo tripod that cost more than $300 back in the 80s, and I think its a studex. Is there any way to determine what serial number it is? I can't find anything okn the legs.

Also, how do you get the head off?

Is there an instruction booklet somewhere?

Greetings: I think you'll find the model number stamped on the bottom of the mounting plate. I didn't know they had serial numbers on these things.

To remove the head, get a good grip on it and turn counter-clockwise. It's threaded onto a 3/8 " stud that extends into the top plate which is attached to the center column.

Manuals eh? Everything essentially unscrews and has compression collars to lock the lower extensions in place with the next highest extension. Here's a link you might be able to some instruction booklet / pamphlets at. Or just call Bogen. If they'vegot one, they'll send it without charge. http://www.bogenimaging.us/

Bought mine back then too. Glad I haven't had to replace it. You see what these things are selling for now without a head and no center column? YIKES !!!
