have the feb. finalists been picked yet? Hi, I can never remember when it is the finalists come out.. have the Feb. Finalists been listed yet? I gotta admit, I get very confused with htis contes... when it ends, when the winners are announced.. In fact, this whole site is a tad screwey to me at times... Like uploading a pic from your gallery to a thread? whats up with that? also, signing in to up load a pic to you gallery... theres no way to go to the upload page unless you go to the home page an sign in again... what up with that? ...lol well at least the members forum is pretty cool. Heheheh Craig - as we say here in South Africa.....'sorry for you' - its my birthday tomorrow (oh, ok, my delivery address for presents is.....!!) so if the judges are going to be kind - which they weren't last month :( I've given up submitting to Sharons thread on my 'hopefuls', as it jinxes me!! (or maybe my pix are just not good enough, I've also thought about that one!) I've also spent ages clearing out my gallery, which is full of duplicates, coz I can't remember which I uploaded, and which I uploaded for comments/forums etc, so don't feel lonely! But good luck everyone !

try inverting it first and then change it to black and white or adgust the contrast to get the detail back if you have a program like nik's color filters it has a infrored black and white conversion that would hold the detail I casnt see your banw pic its not in your gallary

actualy I think its great just need to adjust contrast and enrich the black to make the root stand out more make it look a little 3 dimmensional it is a great shot !!!

well ansel said 12 good photos in a year is a good crop, and I can't seem to get 31 good photos a month! lol I think i'm with ansel, seems about 1 a month is the average, you know the ones actually worth printing huge prints.

Craig, sorry to jump in on something different, but was it you who told me to beware of the focusing problems on the Sigma 24-70? If so, they've just taken the lens back coz of softness, am getting the new 17-70 F2.8-4 - do you know anything about this one? Sorry guys, thought I'd take your mind off Finalists!!! :)

Yes Becky, they shop I bought it from (in SA) is sending it back to Sigma, they seem to be aware there are problems (not with all, but some) I know Chris Vedros has this lens and is very happy with it as well. So, if you're having problems speak to your retailer, or as Craig suggests, send it for recalibration. I'm going to look at the 17-70 Craig, the test shots I saw were very sharp. Its a F2.8-4.0 vs the 24-70 which was a straight F2.8. If I focused on a face, the nose, or an eye, or a portion of the face would be very sharp, the rest was very soft, and flared on the edges, so possibly having the choice of a slightly bigger DOF might be an advantage, but then in very low light, I can go to 2.8! My brain starts aching after a while with all the choices!!! As for the finalists - I think the judges lost my email addy :( I get all excited and am so convinced that somethings going to catch there eye, then nada..... oh well, I'll just drink my coffee and eat my birthday cake! Happy birthday for the 28th Craig!!
