Photography Question

One in a million shot

I've tried to create other threads. Now, I'm gonna try one more time.

How about posting your one in a million shot. You know the one. It's the one you never thought you'd get, that you now have hanging on your wall. The one that you will never have the opportunity to get again. Your shot that everybody talks about.

Here's mine to start.

I did not upload the same one I have in the contest.

The one I have in the contest is better than this one.

Here's mine. I was pretty lucky to get this one! As you might guess, this was supposed to be one of those typical close-'hands. The baby BOY had other plans :o)Was the mother ever surprised!! And so was I when I saw what I'd captured :o)

Mark- fun thread! (Did you say yours was a wolf? I see a camp fire??)

This was once in a lifetime for me- my first time to Europe, and probably last for many years to come. My dad & I were strolling thru the Gardens of Tullerie which was across from our hotel. We were just enjoying being in Paris, and killing time until dinner. We happened to be at the end of the garden when the sun was setting and the colors turned so beautiful. What a trip!!

  Hi Denyse;

Look at the very top of the fire. Use your imagination. You will see a wolf looking down from a cliff. It's left front leg is lifted as though it is looking at something.

Let me know when you see it, okay?

BTW, beautiful shot of "la tour Eiffel".

Have fun and keep shooting,
Mark H.

Mark- OOH! I see it... using my imagination is not my strong suit, lol. Cool.

Thanks for the comments everyone! The other reason I'm proud of my photo- it's 100% unaltered, no crop, no PS of any kind. That's rare for me now that I've gone digital.

I'm loving seeing everyone's photos! They're a riot! I hope we get more posts.

Hi Mark , the flame licking out at the top right side of the fire looks like an arm going up over the head ( the black area) see the pointy elbow ? then the lighter flames comming down toward the middle is the chest then the torso then down to the thighs and calves :) think i'd flunk one of those ink tests?

Okay! I'll try this. I've never tried uploading a photo to a thread before but if I have a one-in-a-million shot on hand it would have to be this dragonfly, caught in mid flight.
Admitidely, the shot was cropped quite a bit, but even with a 100-400zoom, at twenty some feet, something the size of a dragonfly doesn't exactly fill the frame.

Bob

  Thank you all:

No doubt Debby. The neighbors will be laughing too! I'm sure mine were when they saw me wielding that big lens around like I was having some kind of siezure or something.
Actually though, during feeding, Dragonflies will hover in flight. They only do this for a few seconds at a time. This is usually the best chance of getting the shot.
However, this particular shot, the insect was flying towards me, which made it a whole lot easier getting the shot than trying to pan him if he were flying across my veiw from the side.
Best of luck
Bob

  Hey Bob;

You may want to check with the local phone company. I got some cell phones that are actually cheaper than the home phone through them. Only problem is that I had to bundle in the internet, and all I got is dialup.

Guess you got to take the good with the bad.

  No laughing matter.
I need to get hold of tech support. My DSL is great when I first log on, but after a while it looses it's connection. Give it a few minutes and it reconnects, but only at a speed even slower than dial-up. I mean we're talking like FAX modem speed. (17KBs)
Becomes very aggravating when you're trying to upload photos.
Worse than that. I was going to download the free 30 day trial version of PS7 from Adobes' website. This is a 330 meg file. Forget it. At twenty some KBs it would have taken about seven hours. If my stupid connection was working right, it would only take about twenty minutes.
But, I don't have to take the bad with the good. All I need is for my other half to get off the phone long enough so I can call my provider and get the problem fixed.

Hey Mark:

Come to think of it, I do happen to have a second "one in a million" shot.
It was taken at Letchworth state park. At the upper falls, there is a train trestle bridge. I had often wanted to get a shot of a train on the bridge, but there was never a train in sight whenever I was there.
In fact, we were at those falls this same day and again, no train.
Several miles further down the road is another overlook where you can see both the middle falls and the upper falls, at a distance. It was late in the day and the light was not at it's best, giving me a lot of haze. I composed and took a couple shots, trying to include both falls in the picture. It wasn't till I got home and uploaded the days shots on the computer for viewing that I noticed, you got it, a train on the bridge.
It's a little difficult to see because of the distance and the haze, but none the less, it's there.
Bob

BOB- here's one for you...
You see those people?? They're standing ON THAT TRAIN TRESTLE BRIDGE!!! And the gorge shot was taken from it. IT'S A GOOD THING THERE ISN'T OFTEN A TRAIN :)

I'm in Rochester, where are you? (for the rest of you, I'm only an hour from where Bob took this shot!)

Hi Denyse L.

Yeah! I know that bridge too!
Of course the day I was on it didn't look anything like in this software enhanced picture.
I'm outsided little town called Cohocton.
Like you, I'm probably about an hour from Mount Morris, the one of the towns Letchworth encompasses.
Well, good to know you fellow Yorker.

I know Cohocton!! My best friend in high school lived in Naples and as teenagers do, we used to roam all over the area. It'll be fun to see what other local pics we recognize from eachother in future threads.

  Thank you.

Yeah, I have quite a few shots of local scenery including Watkins Glen, Stony Brook, Letchworth (my favorite) and shots from the Balloon festival in 2004. I was in Pa last year over the labor day weekend, so I missed it. I'm hoping to there this year for the 'Glow', when the balloonist light up at night.
I just moved here in '04. My wife has lived here in Cohocton for 23 years. She is originally from Hornell.
BTY - Like your shot of the gorge from the bridge. Pretty awesome. I couldn't get my wife to go that far out on the bridge with me. I did get some shots of the falls directly under the bridge though. Catch ya round.

I'm hoping to make it to the balloon fest this year too... the past few years I've been going to the state fair that weekend instead. (I had a shot on display in 04, woo hoo)

The gorge shot was with my point & shoot advantix camera, it's all I took with me camping that weekend. The gorge is just so beautiful, it doesn't much matter what you shoot it with :)

Cool, see you around BP.
