Canon 30d and macro lens

Hey all, got a few questions

Firstly, im thinkin of buying the new 30d with the canon ef 100mm 2.8 macro USM lense. How do people rate this lense/camera combination??

Also wondering, also for those with the 20D, what file format you generally shoot with and what file size.. ---> referring to this
(1) Large/Fine: Approx. 3.6MB (3504 x 2336 pixels)
(2) Large/Normal: Approx. 1.8MB (3504 x 2336 pixels)
(3) Medium/Fine: Approx. 2.2MB (2544 x 1696 pixels)
(4) Medium/Normal: Approx. 1.1MB (2544 x 1696 pixels)
(5) Small/Fine: Approx. 1.2MB (1728 x 1152 pixels)
(6) Small/Normal: Approx. 0.6MB (1728 x 1152 pixels)
(7) RAW: Approx. 8.7MB (3504 x 2336 pixels)

Im wondering why so many options?

Anywayz thanks :)))

I use the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens with my 20D; it's a great lens - sharp as a tack, good color, fine detail. It's also a great portrait lens.

I always shoot RAW mode myself - but that's just me. The only difference between numbers one through six and number seven on your list is the number of pixels the camera throws away before you view or download the image. The sensor captures the same number of pixels every time the shutter opens.

A lot of people are comfortable with having the camera make these decisions, some people aren't. It's really a matter of a) how much control you want over the image; b) how many images you want on a CF card; c) how much additional work you're willing to put into each image; and d) your skill level with image editing software for post-capture processing.

I wasn't very skilled with Photoshop when I took up RAW shooting, so I had to add developing PS skills to the learning curve. Two years later I'm glad I did, but two years ago I was wondering what I'd gotten myself into....
