Shooting a wedding at sunset

I everyone I have been thinking a lot about the wedding that I will be shooting in June. I have a good idea of some poses, this will be my second wedding the first was for my best friend and the pictures turned out great. But the one in June is on the beach at sunset. I have a Nikon D50 with a tamron 28-200mm lens and a Nikon 18-55 mm wide angle lens. I also have some filters for both lenses and of course a tripod. What type of flash and other equipment should I get. And does anyone have advice for protecting my camera from sand.

brenda, just shoot what comes naturally. don't worry about posing people. just shoot. your equipment is fine for what you are doing. when I shoot beach weddings, I have 3 camera bodies and I don't change the lenses, mostly. I use a 16-35 2.8, a 24-70 2.8, and a 70-200 2.8. Now, once it gets dark, I will probably switch to prime lenses on 2 bodies, so I'd probably have a 24mm 1.4 on one and my 50 1.4 on the other. Both with flashes on them dialed way down.

I shoot wide open almost always.

One thing about sunset weddings, they never seem to start at sunset, they are usually either too late or too early. And, ceremony shots at sunset kind of suck. I mean, lets be honest, how many ceremony shots are killer. maybe a few, but not many. so, if you can, talk to the couple, and see if they can do the ceremony a tad ealier, and then take them out one-on-one for sunset shots by the water. that would be my plan. if they say no, then make the best of it.

The SB-600 should do fine. I recommend some type of flip bracket (I use a Stroboframe but there are others). Jerry likes to bounce (as I do sometimes) but that's hard to do at the beach unless you have REALLY low clouds. lol

I would also recommend you carefully wash all of your equipment off after leaving the beach as there will be salt spray in the air, even if you don't feel it.

I was thinking of getting a cover to protect my camera while taking pictures and cable release.
