Victoria B.C.

Well, since there isn't a "traveling" category.
We're going to Victoria B.C. the first week of April for four days via the Victoria Clipper out of Seattle ...We'll be staying at the Hotel Grand Pacific which I think is semi-new and right on the waterfront.
It will probably be grey and rainy, but does anyone live there with some ideas of what to see/do?
Or just bring an umbrella and wing it??
Thanks, Bob

Check out Vancouver Island... On it, you'll find Butchart Gardens which was fantastic. I also visited Capilano, with a serious suspension bridge; I think that inlcuded a trip up Grouse Mountain for some nice views, too.

Bob: Check my Canada folder at www.peterkburian.com for some ideas as to shooting around the waterfront in Victoria. Take a tripod if possible for night shots. (Otherwise, use ISO 1600 and brace the camera on something solid.)

We were only there for a couple of days (October) so I cannot provide more suggestions. Butchart gardens might be nice by then, as Christopher suggests.

Peter

If you like architecture, they have some beautiful buildings like the Empress. Be sure to check out Craigdaroch (I'm sure I totally butchered the spelling of that) Castle. It's beautiful. Definitely check out Buchart. I'm sure you'll have no shortage of things to shoot up there. :) Have fun!

Do go to Butchart Gardens but, understand a reality of Victoria - that some of the really great photo opportunities are available along the coast ONLY AFTER YOU HIKE IN ABOUT 20 KILOMETERS! The coast that relatively easily accessed is fairly boring, especially if you're fighting cloudy days.

Do get a reservation for High Tea at the Empress. You MUST have a reservation! It's worth the time and cost!

  Thanks for the replies...
This will be the fourth or fifth time we've been to Victoria, but haven't been for several years and never this time of year. We've done High Tea at the Empress, and yes, it was great! I/we have no plans of doing any hiking except on paved surfaces...:-)
