No Ready Light on the Norman 12/12

I just got my brother's Norman 12/12 powerpack from storage, it fired 5 times or so with the test button. Then I plugged the light meter in (which had a bad battery at first) and now the ready light won't light up. (even with no sync or meter cord inserted). My brother said there was red reset button, but I can't find this and there are 2 switch thingys or fuse things (i'm really not sure) on the side, but I don't know how to use these. they say 15amp and 10 amp. they look like switches but don't really move very far. Hope that makes sense.

Hey Melanie, let me share with you the wisdom of experience. Power packs are sources of very very high voltage stored in capacitors inside the pack. If you start rumaging around without knowing exactly what you're doing, you could end up doing the Better Photo.Com "Hokey Pokey". Note that most camera repair shops won't work on packs for that reason.

Get ahold of Norman Enterprises, get a manual for that pack, find out if the ready lights can be changed without sending it in for service. To check the fuses properly, disconnect the power to the pack, discharge the capacitors by hitting the push to test switch or button, then remove the fuse and look to see if it's still good.

Beyond that, you shouldn't need a ready light to determine whether the pack actually is operable. It should trigger a flash head even if the indicator lamp in the pack is burned out. AND, btw, don't attach anything valuable to this pack (things like cameras) unless you know the pack is operating properly. If it's got a short in the trigger circuit, you could transfer that short to either fry your camera's PC contacts or other electronic stuff, like circuit boards.
Take it light.
Mark

Thanks so much for the warning. I did finally find the norman website and I have sent them an email.
