blurry sports shots

i have been using a nikon 80-200 1:2.8d with a 1.4x teleconverter with a nikon d70 for taking lacrosse photographs, a very fast paced sport. when I have it set for auto focus and speed, I am not sure which area to set my focus on - closest subject, dynamic or single area. some of my shpts have been coming out blurry lately. any suggestions on settings with this equipment would be greatly appreciated. the games are played outside for the most part. thanks

I like single area.... usually the middle.. I want to be the one in charge of where the focus is. use the focus lock switch to make sure it doesn't get changed without you knowing it. "dynamic" basically tries to set an average focus across the focus points (subjects) which will get you average focus. closest subject... you won't know what you will get until after you take the picture.... better that you control what to focus on.

that being said, there are many other factors for good focus on moving subjects... shutter speed, your paning abilities, how steady you hold the camera, etc. Remember that the more you zoom in, the more difficult catching moving subjects becomes... good luck.
