A lens filter is a filter is a filter, unless you're talking about coffee filters. For that, I'd refer you to hints from Heloise. So, the kind of filter you would use on a zoom is the same for any other lens, whether it's a telephoto, wide angle, or standard focal length lens. You can buy them at any camera store or online at places like http://www.bhphotovideo.com All you need to know is what size filter the zoom lens wears.
