THIS IS JUST A MESSAGE TO HELP YOU PROTECT YOURSELF!
WOW, I just got a email that came looking like a PayPal payment had been made from me to : Nasaeem Ali
218 A Henery street
Somerset , NJ 08873
for $317.69 for the 1997
Champions of Golf" The Masters" Set.
Email address:Brain@sccentral.com

there is a link at the bottom that says: if this payment was unathorized click this link: DON'T DO IT!!!!!

They will then look and act like PayPal and once you put your password in you have let them into your account.

Yes Debby I've seen something similiar. A warning to folks, they do look and act almost EXACTLY like paypal. I would contact PayPal with the message attached asking for the authenticity of the email. Thanks for pointing it out Deb, they sure do look identical.

Any way Please forward to: SPOOF@EBAY.COM
here is part of the letter that just arrived from "safe Harbor, Ebay" :

" Hello,

Thank you for contacting us about email solicitations that are falsely
made to appear to have come from PayPal. The email you reported did not
originate from PayPal or eBay.

Emails such as these are commonly referred to as "spoof" messages, and
are sent in an attempt to collect sensitive personal information. They
do this by asking the recipient of the email to reply to the message or
click on a link to a Web page requesting this information.

We are very concerned about this problem and are working diligently to
address the situation. We are currently investigating the source of
these emails to take further action."

I did not get this one, specifically, but, I have gotten 3 or 4 lately that look like they originated from paypal but did not. I do report them to paypal as we all should. They are getting sneakier. The emails look legit. If I'm in doubt, I usually email paypal direct and ask if they have been trying to contact me. Paypal won't answer me direct, but, they do have their "process" and will look at them.

I've found that the best way to deal with these is to use only prepaid debit cards when using paypal. That way, you have more control over your money. A prepaid debit card can only be used to the amount on it. It may be a pain to reenter your information every couple of months, but the last scam I received got a whopping twelve cents from me. I got a nasty email from the scammer which was promptly turned over to the authorities. Revenge is sweet.
