low key and high key


What is low key and high key lighting.Also what exactly should be the ratio of studio lights when using these kind of lighting.

  I don't remember the exact terminology but the basics of it is that a low-key image is one that the majority of the image is of a darker tone. Below is an example by an extraordinary photographer named Johansson.

A high key image is one who's overall "tone" is light or bright. Here is an example by the same photographer:
