Photography Question

International Society of Photographers

I had a couple questions about this company/organization. I was published in "Visions of Memories" by this company after entering one of their contests on picture.com. I entered a second time this year, and received a letter that I had made the semi finals in thier contest. Soon after, I received a "special" invitation from them to come to the "International Society of Photographers Annual Convention and Symposium" to be held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas so I could "showcase my photograph". They also said that I was up for the Amateur Photographer of the Year award and that I had won the "Outstanding Acheivement in Photography Silver Award Bowl, bronze commerorative Award Medallion, etc. I assumed that they were out for my money, since I had to pay for this that and the other thing, etc. So I ignored it.
I just received another letter from them, stating that if I am "unable tojoin them at the convention, they would still like to showcase my work" And although I won't be eligible for the main prize if I don't show, I can still receive the bowl and other awards, if I let them showcase my work there. The catch is that I have to send them some 160 dollars for, as they state, "Additionally, because you will not be present, we must also ask you for the necessary funds ($169.00 plus S&H) to cover the costs of the time and effort required to present your photography before the convention attendees, and the costs incurred in insuring and shipping these extremely bulky and heavy awards to you"
Could someone please tell me if this is worth it/legitimate or if it is just some organization raking in money from un-suspecting amateur photogs that don't know any better. Any informtaion on this would be greatly aprreciated. Much mahalo(thank you) and Aloha!

As far as I'm concerned, no it's not worth it. If I had 160 bucks to blow, I'd spend it on something I'd use.

I'm helping to spread the word in any way I can, unfortunately theyre really not doing anything "wrong", so all we can do is warn others I suppose =/ Talk to you later and take care,

~Dave
P.S. Glad I learned it now, better to learn it now than go along not knowing about it and have to face it later on =]
