Sharon, I've just come back from a 10k race, and am too tired to go through all the questions, but it looks like a good thread :) In the meantime I just Googled Galen Rowell (never heard of him in SA before) and WOW, OMG, Faint!!! Sublime. I reckon though, that if there's anyone at BP I really admire as an awesome landscape photographer, who's following in Galens footsteps, dare I say - it has to be Marc Adamus - his stuff is just mind-blowing. I ditto a lot of your comments - but mine would be Canon 5D and MarkII DS. Ditto on the money story !

Thanks, Robyn! I agree Marc Adamus has outstanding photography! One of these days I'm going to figure out how they capture such wonderful light all the time. No matter when I arrive at a scene that remarkable light and color eludes me. I know they must use filters but that isn't even working very well for me. This is something I would aspire to if I can't have the income LOL.

David A. Bliss
When did you become interested in Photography?
In the 80s first, then seriously around '94

Are you professional or hobbyist?
Hobbyist still, unfortunately ;-)

Are you a traditional photographer or do you enjoy Photoshop or both?
I have become more of a PS guy

Film or digital or both?
I used to shoot film, but switched to digital. I still have my film cameras, and there are some things I want to go back to film for.

What is your current camera/equipment?
Canon 10D, Canon 20-35, Canon 28-105, Canon 70-210, Sigma 400, other lenses and filters...

What camera would you own if money were no object?
Whatever the top of the line Canon digital was at the time!

What are you favorite subjects?
Landscapes, nature

Describe your favorite photo or add to this thread.
I shot a picture many years ago above timberline on Mt Evans. It was spring, and the wild flowers were blooming. There was a small pond, that was reflecting a beautiful sky. At the far side of the pond were two mountain goats, lying facing each other. They were also reflecting into the pond. It might be one of the best pictures I have ever taken (through no fault of my own ;-). This was back when I was shooting slides. I have misplaced the slide. I had it out to take to the lab to have them scan it, and then I don't know what happened to it. I have moved twice since then. Learned a valuable lesson about taking better care of my slides!!!

What do you want to learn?
There is so much, I just want to keep learning and getting better.

What have you achieved in photography?
Well, besides being a finalist here ;-) I have been acknowledged on other sites, and have sold my photography services. I am getting my work together for an art walk.

What would you like to achieve that you haven't? Yep, doing this full time!

Where and/or what area of the world do you enjoy photographing the most?
There are so many! I have spent most of my time shooting in the west, because that is where I am from, and I don't have the money for many adventures. I do like shooting Rocky Mountain National Park, the Moab area (Arches and Canyonlands), Glacier was amazing and I want to go back, and the Colubmia Gorge was terrific.

How often do you use your camera?
Not as often as I would like to, that's for sure! I used to get out for sunrise every weekend, but life has been keeping me busy with other things. What I really need to do is MAKE time for it!

What famous photographer inspires you? Probably the first photographer that I really considered an influence was Art Wolfe. His work has kept me going! The Muenches are amazing, also.

Favorite photography quote? Can't say that I have one. How about f8 and be there!!!

Thanks everyone! I am really enjoying this!

David, I can relate to misplacing a slide. I had one I really liked of Thor's Hammer in Bryce NP. The lighting was exceptional. I haven't moved so maybe one day I'll stumble across where I placed it. I accidentally threw a negative of anothe favorite shot. Let's not talk about what can happen to digital, like deleting a whole folder LOL.

My favorite photographer's quote comes from portrait photographer Yoseph Karsh-"I usually wait for a natural moment, a smile, a smirk, a wink. Then, I take the picture."
