Photography Question

Valentina Toth

Abstract category?

I've noticed that when viewing galleries there is a whole section for abstract photography.
Most my photos fit in exactly that category, but I don't know how to get them there. If I try to enter them into a contest, "abstract" simply isn't on the list! Is there some other way of categorizing my photos?

I'm sorry if my questions are trivial, I'm quite new around here, and I'm still only begining to grasp how this place works!

Any tips appreciated!

No, there is not a category for abstracts. You just have to make do with the ones that are there and try to place it where it best fits. The still life people have the same problem. Hard to decide where to put things. There used to be a "catch all" category a few years ago, but when they changed to the 10 categories they have now, it got eliminated. Just use your best guess and read their category definitions. That sometimes helps a little. Good luck.

I see.... but what's the deal with the abstract category existing on the gallery view page? I'd like my photos to be there... or do I need to be a premium member for that?

I don't know how they get in there. Has nothing to do with the contest, I don't think.

  Valentina,
When a question like this was asked before, I'm pretty sure someone from the BetterPhoto staff clarified that all of the images in the "Subject" galleries are either contest finalists and winners, or submissions from BP course instructors.

These galleries are updated periodically by the site's staff, no photos automatically get put there.

Chris

Hi Valentina - I understand where you are coming from. I am a new member also. I use two catagories to put my abstract photo's in; 1) Elements of Design 2) Digital Darkroom. Most go into the first catagory. If I use a LOT of Photo Shop 'enchancement' then I use the second catagory. I hope this helps. Cheers, Glenn.
